Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the effect of the instructional control mode (learner control versus program control) in instructional multimedia software on the academic achievement in chemistry among secondary school students. The quantitative approach was used through quasi-experimental design based on two experimental groups with pre and post-measurement. The study sample consisted of sixty students selected from the second grade of Yethrib secondary School in Khartoum locality. The sample was randomly divided into two experimental groups. The first group (a) consist of thirty students studied some units of the chemistry course using an educational software based on learner’s control mode, and the second group (b) consist of thirty student studied the same course units using an educational program based on the program’s control. The study tool consisted of an achievement test in chemistry prepared by the researcher. The test was applied to both groups pre and post treatment. The results of an independent samples (T) test revealed statistically significant differences in the post achievement between the two groups in favor of the experimental group (a) who’s studied using learner control courseware. The study recommended increasing the learner control options over educational software.
