The aim of this research is to know the effect of using the active learning strategy on the achievement of secondary school students in physics in Aden Governorate. The researcher used the quasi-experimental method with the experimental and control groups, with two tests, pre and post tests. (36) students studied using the cooperative learning strategy, and the control group (36) students studied using the usual method, and the research tool was: multiple-choice achievement test consisting of:(30) items. After completion of the experiment, the results were statistically analyzed and the arithmetic means, standard deviations and t-test were calculated. To find the differences between the two groups, the results of the study showed the following:
- The students of the experimental group outperformed the students of the control group in the post-achievement test as a whole and according to each of the cognitive levels (memory, understanding, application, analysis), due to the active learning strategy.
- The students of the experimental group excelled in the post-achievement test overall and according to each level of knowledge compared to their pre-achievement, due to the active learning strategy. In light of the results of the study, a number of recommendations were developed, the most important of which are: Organizing workshops to train teachers to use the active learning strategy, including the cooperative learning strategy for teaching physics to first-year secondary students.
