The Usage of Bee’s Honey by Doctors in Treating Some Medical Conditions in Capital's Sana'a Secretariat

Abstract

 This study aimed to identity the importance of bee’s honey in the health sector with the aim of obtaining information that supports benefiting from it in a practical way. The study was carried out by collecting data through a questionnaire and personal interviews with a number of doctors working in some of the hospitals, health centers and medical clinics in the secretariat of the capital Sana’a to obtain their opinions in knowing and using bee’s honey in treating medical conditions, methods of diseases that have been treated, and their most important suggestions. One sample Wilcox on signed rank test and percentage were used and results analysis was conducted using (SPSS) statitstics software. The results showed that 63.34% of doctors encouraged the proposal of establishing honey bee's units in hospital for treating medical conditions, and they pointed out that 91.67% of diseases were treated with honey bees. The results also highlighted that 40% of doctors stated that bee’s honey cannot be prescribed as a medicine for some illnesses like those of diabetes. Furthermore, 66.67% of doctors claimed that bee’s honey is more efficient when used along with other medications than when it is used alone. There were different opinions about using bee’s honey for medicine, but most doctors supported the idea of using honey in medicine due to mentioning it in Holy Koran and the Prophet’s Sunnah. In addition, most doctors in this research indicated that bee’s honey is a nutrient dense food and has great medicinal usage without much side effects compared to medications.
