Abstract

    The family, as a social institution, relies on several fundamental components that enable it to perform its functions, where its success or failure depends on the integration or conflict of these components, such as the family’s economic and social status. The appropriate choice of a university major is often closely linked to the family and its orientations. Therefore, this study seeks to identify the role of the family in guiding its children toward choosing a university major. The study aims to explore this role from the perspective of first-year university students. The researcher employed the descriptive-analytical method، and the study sample consisted of (131) male and female students from the Faculty of Arts first year, in Aden Governorate, distributed across the majors of Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Philosophy, and Fine Arts. To achieve the study’s objectives, the researcher used a questionnaire as a tool to investigate the family’s role in guiding children toward selecting a university major.
