The research discusses the phenomenon of urban transformation in Yemen, the global phenomenon which was and still experienced in all countries with difference in severity, type, causes, time period and results.
The phenomenon of urban transformation in Yemeni society; emanating from the specificity of its location, borders, geographical data, exceptional political and administrative experience negatively affected urban planning and economic development. The aim of study is to define the diversity of the attraction and expulsion factors between rural and urban areas that drive the population and nourish the dynamics of urban transformation. Therefore, this research was carried out.
The research defines the terms, and shows an overview of the factors and stages of the urban transformation phenomenon in the world and the Arab world countries and the position of Yemen. The historical method was used to track the stages and characteristics of urban transformation in Yemen and its relationship to political and administrative transformation, as well as the quantitative analytical approach to digitally diagnose the indicators of the reality of rapid urban transformation, based on the available data, information, studies, personal interviews with the relevant authorities and the researcher’s experience in this field.
It also evaluates the most prominent problems of cities and the existing urban and development landscape, anticipating the problems of cities, the outcomes of rapid and random urban transformation and the risks of neglecting them in the future such as the complexity and the high cost of the solutions, the growing repercussions on society, development, and the sustainable environment. It emphasizes the need to open prospects for political, administrative and development stability in the future.
