The capital of Yemen, Sana'a, faces planning, urban and environmental challenges that threaten the sustainability of life and urban environment. This study addresses the problem of urban planning and discusses the definition of the concepts of planning, urban planning and the direction of the urban issue existing in Sana'a. It focuses on the multiple aspects of the urban issue in all its planning, service and environmental dimensions.
The study also addresses the factors causing the urban planning issue at the national level, including the decline in urban planning level in Sana, such as the absence of guidance plans, the delay of putting detailed plans for the use of urban land, the violations of existing plans, urban growth in the suburbs of the city awa y from sound planning, the decline in urban planning because we moved away from the city center and headed towards the suburbs where the slums surrounding the capital from all sides grew in number and size.
Thus, the urban planning has become a problem threatening the present and future urban development in the capital of Yemen which is suffering from an increase in urban population exceeding its ability to provide housing and services. This will constitute an urban problem that cannot be resolved in the future..
In conclusion, the study puts a number of procedural, planning and development solutions addressing the problem of urban planning and its existing manifestations. These solutions aim to prepare the capital to accommodate the existing and expected population increases and contribute to the sustainability of environmental and urban life in the capital of the Republic of Yemen.
