Abstract

This paper talks about Imam AlQurtubi, and explores some aspects of his life, his large knoweldge and deep learning, his virtues, and his far-reaching merit. It also seeks to acquaint the reader with"Ilm Maqasid Ashariah" (sometimes translated as the science of the objectives of the Islamic law) and the Imam's contribution to this field, which he made in his book "Al-Jami'li-Ahkami Al-Qur'an"(often translated as the Compendium of the legal rulings of the Qur'an). The book shows the importance of the science by investigating Ahkam Ashariah (the legislative provisions), on the one hand, and by uncovering some Shariah matters and Fiqh issues, on the other. It testifies, like others by previous Maliki scholars, to the Imam's excellence in this branch of knowlege.
