Abstract

The phenomenon of street children is a serious issue facing many countries worldwide, given the associated social, economic, security, and cultural risks that threaten societal safety, stability, and well-being. Consequently, nations attach great importance to this issue and strive to devise solutions and remedies. In a 2001 report, the United Nations estimated the global number of street children at 150 million, projecting that this figure could rise to 800 million if countries fail to seriously address this dangerous phenomenon. It is worth noting that this phenomenon stems primarily from economic and social factors involving the family and society, as well as personal factors related to the child.

This research focuses on this phenomenon by examining its causes and effects, as well as the roles played by relevant international organizations, government and non-governmental social welfare institutions, and security agencies in mitigating its risks. It explores efforts to transform these children into productive, upstanding members of society and to prevent them from becoming criminals who threaten societal security and stability.
