The class of jurists has formed a high rank since the establishment of the Almoravid state, the latter in which the jurists occupied the degree of sanctity, and it is not surprising that the founder of their call, Abdullah bin Yassin, was a jurist. Rather, the judges, in turn, were not issuing their rulings except with the advice of four jurists, and thus the class of jurists became a feared class, heard the word, and their status and the control they reached over the reins of affairs in addition to their property and material wealth, was one of the factors that called Ibn Tumart to attack them, and to fight The intellectual stagnation that was hanging over them.
As for the Almohad era, the jurists did not reach the same level and influence that they enjoyed during the Almoravid state, and this is due to the fact that the Almohad state was based on fighting the domination of the jurists and their intellectual rigidity, and Ibn Tumart, since the early stages of his call, distributed responsibilities in the form of classes that he invented. Those who did did not leave an opportunity for the jurists to extend their influence and control over the state, but despite that, and after the death of Ibn Tumart, they gained a worthy place for them, whether financially or legally, especially since they are in charge of the affairs of the Almohad da’wa and are engaged in the doctrine of the state.
